This collection contains photographs of the Povey family of Oregon, as well as the related Kelly and Plummer families. The photographs consist of snapshots as well as formal studio portraits, including photographs of George W. Povey, a veteran of the Spanish-American War. There are also photographs of various buildings in Rock Island, Ill. and San Diego, Calif. Photographers include Helen Plummer Gatch, among many others. Includes cartes de visite, cabinet cards, and cyanotypes.

Helen Plummer Gatch (1861-1942) was born in Alton, Illinois, to Dr. Orlando P.S. Plummer, who moved to Portland, Ore. with his three daughters in 1864 after the death of their mother. As a young woman, Helen taught school before her marriage to Claud Gatch (born 1859), a banker who served as mayor of Salem, Or. from 1893-1896.
